阿西莫夫祖籍俄國，出生於俄羅斯的彼得格勒，父親名猶達－阿西莫夫，母親叫安娜－拉切爾－保曼－阿西莫娃。他於1919年1月2日出生，但為了能讓他早一年上學，他的母親曾把他的生日改為1920年1月二日。後來他知道了這一情況，堅持把生日改了回來。他在三歲的時候,跟隨父母移民到美國，定居在紐約的布洛克林。

B. 銀河帝國三部曲的內容簡介
1、《繁星若塵》
《繁星若塵》（The Stars, Like Dust），是美國作家艾薩克·阿西莫夫出版於1951年的長篇科幻小說，是「銀河帝國三部曲」中年代最早的一部。
在這部小說里，人類還處於星際戰國時代，銀河帝國及其前身「川陀王國」皆尚未出現。 年輕的拜倫．法瑞爾王子，天霧星未來的牧主，在地球學習期間，險遭核輻射的傷害。
而其父受人尊敬的維迪莫斯牧主落入兇狠的太暴人手中，身陷險境。 拜倫被迫踏入浩大宇宙的征途，尋找失落了的，足以毀滅整個世界的神秘文件。
另一方面，被強權統治下的各星際人民，受到了反叛軍的煽動，團結起來准備推翻太暴星人。在分秒必爭的時間，拜倫急需找到神秘文件，並阻止反叛軍挑起全世界的戰斗。
2、《星空暗流》
《星空暗流》（The Currents of Space），是美國作家艾薩克·阿西莫夫出版於1952年的長篇科幻小說，「銀河帝國三部曲」的第二部（依出版順序則是第三部）。在這部小說里，川陀王國已經席捲半壁銀河，處心積慮繼續擴展勢力。
經過若干年的星際爭霸戰，川陀已經席捲銀河的半邊江山，只剩下富甲一方的薩克世界能與之抗衡。薩克的經濟命脈是其殖民地弗羅倫納的特產，這種稀有植物無法在其他星球生長，因而為薩克賺取了全球的財富，川陀對此覬覦已久。
愚可，一個曾經過心靈改造的白痴，無人知道他的來歷，只知道他突然出現在弗羅倫納，某一天，愚可突然宣稱弗羅倫納的未日即將來臨，即個銀河帝國亦將遭到同樣的命運。為了挽救整個銀河，薩克和川陀攜手合作，破壞陰謀者的奸計。
3、《蒼穹一粟》
《蒼穹一粟》（Pebble in the Sky），另譯《蒼穹微石》、《空中石子》，是美國作家艾薩克·阿西莫夫出版於1950年的長篇科幻小說，也是他的第一部長篇小說。
雖然最早出版，故事年代卻是「銀河帝國三部曲」中的最後一集，此時整個銀河系業已統一在「銀河帝國」的旗幟下。
故事的開頭發生在1949年6月的地球，芝加哥的退休裁縫約瑟夫·施瓦茨在人行道上突然被核能研究所因事故而產生的泄露射線擊中，來到了地球紀元12411年，銀河紀元827年的芝加哥（這時的名字叫芝加）。
他被農夫亞賓·瑪倫一家收留。此時地球已經遭到放射性物質的嚴重污染，只有少數地區可供人類存活，並只能供養2000萬全球人口，因此地球人在年滿60歲時都要被施行安樂死；
每個家庭都被分配了嚴格的生產定額，不能勞動的殘疾人士也要被安樂死。亞賓·瑪倫的岳父格魯身患殘疾，但被瞞報。
亞賓·瑪倫計劃將施瓦茨留在家中協助完成生產定額，但後來聽從格魯建議，將其送至城中，擔任核能研究所教授謝克特發明的「學習機」的人體試驗志願者。通過改造，施瓦茨無意中具備了判讀甚至控制他人思維的能力。

阿西莫夫是俄裔猶太人，他於1920年出生在俄國，3歲時舉家遷往美國，5年後取得美國國籍。阿西莫夫的父親在紐約布魯克林區開有數家糖果連鎖店，阿西莫夫則一邊讀書一邊幫忙照料店鋪。阿西莫夫的父親保守刻板，對子女要求嚴格，禁止阿西莫夫看暴力色情之類的報刊書籍，於是阿西莫夫選擇了科幻小說，並從9歲開始痴迷。
在阿西莫夫18歲那年，他將自己的處女作《宇宙瓶塞鑽》投給著名科幻作家兼編輯坎貝爾主編的科幻雜志，但是坎貝爾認為這篇作品「作為短篇太長，作為長篇則太短」，而且他「不喜歡慢騰騰的開頭，以及自殺的結局」。不過坎貝爾還是給了阿西莫夫以很大的鼓勵。結果在1939年3月，阿西莫夫終於發表了自己的第一篇作品《逃離灶神星》。

「機器人」系列中的短篇作品主要收集在《我，機器人》和《其餘的機器人》等作品集當中，其中前者本刊已在以前介紹過。此外阿西莫夫有關機器人的科幻還有長篇《鋼窟》和《裸日》等。阿西莫夫利用自己提出的「機器人學三定律」，為機器人建立了一套行為規范和道德准則，從而演繹出一系列推理性和邏輯性極強的漂亮故事。本期要介紹的，就是阿西莫夫的長篇推理偵探科幻《鋼窟》。
