艾萨克·阿西莫夫（Isaac Asimov，生名：伊萨克·尤多维奇·奥济莫夫，Исаáк Ю́дович Ази́мов，1920年1月2日－1992年4月6日）。
出生于俄罗斯的美籍犹太人作家与生物化学教授，门萨学会会员，他创作力丰沛，产量惊人，作品以科幻小说和科普丛书最为人称道。美国科幻小说黄金时代的代表人物之一。
阿西莫夫一生创作和编辑过的书籍超过500册，据估计他至少写过9000封的信函和明信片，著作类别除了哲学类以外，几乎涵盖整个“杜威十进制图书分类法”。
阿西莫夫是公认的科幻大师，与儒勒·凡尔纳、H·G·威尔斯并称为科幻历史上的三巨头，同时还与罗伯特·海因莱因、亚瑟·克拉克并列为科幻小说的三巨头。
阿西莫夫的作品中，以“基地系列”最为人称道，其它的主要著作还有“银河帝国三部曲”和“机器人系列”，三大系列最后在“基地系列”的架空宇宙中合归一统，被誉为“科幻圣经”。
阿西莫夫笔下产出不少短篇小说，其中《日暮》（Nightfall）曾获美国科幻作家协会票选为1964年前的最佳短篇小说。他也写推理小说和奇幻小说，以及大量的非文学类作品，并曾用笔名保罗·弗兰克西（Paul French）为青少年撰写科幻小说“幸运之星系列”。
阿西莫夫治学有方，他的科普著作多以史学手法阐述科学概念，尽可能细数从头，理性分析科学脉络。提及某个科学家时，也会一并附上详细的背景资料，诸如国籍、出生日期和死亡日期，并以语源学和发音方式介绍科技名词。
这些特点在他的《智者的科学指南》、三大卷的《认识物理学》和《阿西莫夫的科学探索史纲》（Asimov's Chronology of Science and Discovery）里处处可见。
阿西莫夫参与门萨学会多年，后来有点不甘愿的被拱为副会长，他说这个学会的会员都“好逞能斗智”，相较之下，他更乐意担任美国人文主义者协会的会长。小行星5020、《阿西莫夫科幻小说》杂志和两项阿西莫夫奖都是以他的名字命名。

《基地三部曲》是江苏文艺出版社1951年出版的图书，作者是艾萨克·阿西莫夫。这是一部科幻小说，分别是《基地》、《基地与帝国》、《第二基地》，该作者一生总共写了七大册的基地故事，分别是《基地》、《基地与帝国》、《第二基地》、《基地边缘》、《基地与地球》、《迈向基地》和《基地前传》。
作品特色
阿西莫夫许多的小说，都有着浓厚的温和专制主义。他的第一篇机器人短篇小说《小机》谈的是一个机器人褓姆。在《兰尼》的故事里，谈到机器人心理学家苏珊·凯文对一个只有三岁智能的正子脑机器人产生母爱。慢慢的，机器人越来越老于世故，它们的介入也变得广泛而微妙。
在《证据》里，机器人伪装成人类，成功赢得选举。《可避免的冲突》中，机器人在幕后以人道主义，扮演起全人类的褓姆。
其后，在《曙光中的机器人》和《机器人与帝国》中，机器人发展出“机器人第零定律”：“机器人不得伤害人类整体，或袖手旁观坐视人类整体受到伤害。”他使得机器人的存在对人类的自由主权造成压迫，因此最好的解决方法就是让机器人分阶段逐步撤出人类的世界。
无巧不成书，同样的问题与解决方案，也在一本非机器人系列的时间旅行小说《永恒的终结》里出现。
“第零定律”的重要性在于地位凌驾其它三大定律，如若有个机器人为保护人类整体（维护第零定律），必须杀害一个人或一群人（抵触第一定律），机器人的正子程式为了人类整体着想就会同意谋杀罪行。
在“基地系列”中（起初并没有机器人），一位科学家通过演算推测得到了旧帝国覆灭不可避免，因而开始执行了一项半机密的计划，准备用相对较短的千年的时间建立起新的稳定的银河帝国。故事里有一个精神守护者，称作《第二基地》，负责保护和纠正计划顺利完成。
阿西莫夫在1950年代中场休息时，第二基地还是人类保护者，1980年代他重拾科幻笔杆，就把温和专制主义发挥得更淋漓尽致。
其计划主要是通过科技、宗教、贸易、稳定等各阶段手段来达到影响其他地区形成稳定政权，当其中遇到了计划外的事件——一个心灵变异者，通过心灵能力控制第一基地的人员，其最终被克服。
然而在计划中，第二基地作为计划监控者，是暗藏在背后，所以当第二基地被暴露后会导致第一基地不能按预定计划完全自主进行发展，产生了依赖心理。所以最终第二基地通过假象被第一基地完全毁灭而逐渐回复到暗中监控的情况。
盖娅行星在《基地边缘》登场，显然是基于盖亚假说。盖娅行星所有动植物跟矿石，都分享著一个整体意识，构成一个超级心灵，合力为大我奉献。在《基地与地球》里，主角开始搜寻地球，想找出他在《基地边缘》选择盖娅星系的原因。
阿西莫夫企图借由盖娅行星，探索集体意识的可能性。在《复仇女神》里他更进一步，让艾利斯罗行星上的原核生物拥有自我意识，并且试图与人类交流。
阿西莫夫从《基地与地球》开始，将机器人带进“基地系列”，他在最后两部小说《基地前奏》和《迈向基地》钜细靡遗探讨了它们的行为。机器人被描写成暗地里为人类福址努力的行动者。
另一个常见的特色，大概就是温和专制主义的相反面，社会压迫。在《星空暗流》中有颗生长特殊植物纤维的行星，行星上的农工都被邻近行星的贵族们所剥削。《繁星若尘》里的英雄则协助一颗行星对抗傲慢自大的行星帝国太暴人。
通常受压迫的对象不是地球人（对抗其它行星的殖民者）就是机器人。《双百人》里机器人力抗偏见想变成人类。
在《钢穴》里，地球人怨恨富有的“外世界人”和他们对待机器人（由外世界人所组装）的态度，认为他们有如指鹿为马，把机器人当“小男孩”看待。
《苍穹微石》里也有类似的情形，银河帝国统治地球，戏称地球人为“地球仔”，而地球则成了一个神权独裁世界，强迫每个人只能活到60岁就得接受安乐死，书中主角贝尔·艾伐丹是上流阶层的银河考古学家，力图克服自己的偏见。
而另一位主角是62岁的约瑟夫·史瓦兹，来自20世纪，从受迫害的欧洲逃难到美国（他可能是犹太人]吧），意外被传送到艾伐丹的时代。他必须决定是否要帮助这个想要他命的弱势社会。
阿西莫夫的作品还有一个特色，那就是理性逻辑。他在小说《钢穴》和《Asimov's Mysteries》里，发明了科幻推理风格，他通常都会遵守“公平游戏”的游戏规则，先在故事中详尽介绍所有跟答案有关的科学或技术。
后来他也写非科幻类的推理小说，包括《Murder at the ABA》和《The Black Widowers》和《Union Club》短篇选集，公平公开，从不造次。在他的小说里，重要事件通常都是辩论戏，比较理性、人道（或具说服力）的一方就是赢家。

《基地》（Foundation，意为地基、基石。），是美国作家艾萨克·阿西莫夫出版于1951年的科幻小说短篇集，“基地三部曲”的第一部（后来发展成“基地系列”），1955年曾以《千年计划》（The 1,000-Year Plan）为名，收录在“双重王牌丛书”（Ace Double），第D-110号丛书。这部短篇集里其中的4篇故事，原载于1942年到1944年之间的《惊奇杂志》（Astounding Magazine，但是不同标题），第5篇则是集结成书时加进去的。几十年后，阿西莫夫又追加两本前传，之后也授权其他作家为这个系列编写新的故事。

世界三大科幻作家是：英国的阿瑟·克拉克、美国的罗伯特·海因莱因和艾萨克·阿西莫夫。
从20世纪40年代到60年代，世界范围内（以英国为代表）科幻小说的发展经历了所谓“黄金时代”，形成一个持续创作、出版的高峰。被称为世界科幻“三巨头”。
