养成日常读报的行为,不仅提高了英语,增加了词汇量,更重要的是了解西人的思维方式.余以为,只有对了解他们的思想文化感兴趣,才能顺便学习好他们的语言.
如果功利性太强的话,学习中国学校的英语再好也不过是哑吧英语，划勾英语而已． 我见过北外所谓的好学生和英美人士谈的不过是些LOWEST DENOMINATOR之类的东西. 语言永远是思维的确物质外壳， 一个没有知识没有内涵(Essence)的人，是苍白无趣的．
本人长期阅读上述报刊杂志（还有South China Morning Post)(SCMP 上的 Editorial 内容不错．），虽仍然逊色于母语人士但比国内的身边的人强不少．
