英文著名短篇小说排行榜
⑴ 推荐没有翻译过的英文短篇小说
狄更斯的《雾都孤儿》这部短篇挺适合初学者的，还有马克·吐温的《哈利贝克·费恩历险记》、《汤姆·索亚历险记》，这几本短篇都容易找到英文版的，稍微有点格调的书店也有卖。此外JK·罗琳的《哈利波特》系列，对于高中生也是能看懂的，并没有太多的难点单词，另外，泰戈尔的《飞鸟集》也是可以尝试着看看，感受下英文诗歌的意境和词语用法。

To his great surprise, he found himself staring at 1000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as his. In this same village, another little dog, who was not quite as happy as the first one, decided to visit the house. He slowly climbed the stairs and hung his head low as he looked into the door. When he saw the 1000 unfriendly looking dogs staring back at him, he growled at them and was horrified to see 1000 little dogs growling back at him. As he left, he thought to himself, "That is a horrible place, and I will never go back there again."

The City mouse said, "This food is not good, and your house is not good. Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made of stone. You would have nice food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the city."
The Country mouse went to the house of the City mouse. It was a very good house. Nice food was set ready for them to eat. But just as they began to eat they heard a great noise. The City mouse cried, " Run! Run! The cat is coming!" They ran away quickly and hid.
After some time they came out. When they came out, the Country mouse said, "I do not like living in the city. I like living in my hole in the field. For it is nicer to be poor and happy, than to be rich and afraid."

D.H. Lawrence的"The Rocking-Horse Winner".（《木马赢家》）
讲述了一个家庭被金钱蒙蔽了双眼，亲情不再，人与人之间的关系被物质异化的故事。
一向都是劳伦斯最擅长描绘的物质主义下人的异变的故事。
劳伦斯的词句不难，但是每个词底下暗流涌动，生机勃勃，文风自成一派。
作为初入门的劳伦斯研究者，我觉得开口评价这位英国文学大师，已经诚惶诚恐。劳伦斯的长篇小说如《查泰莱夫人的情人》，《儿子与情人》都脍炙人口，但是短篇小说也许在国内受众不多。这篇"The Rocking-Horse Winner"是不可多得的佳作，值得一读。

要是想读名著的话，牛津书虫系列比较适合英语学习，是名著的简化版本，容易理解，也能广泛涉猎。都是双语的。

其他经典名著都可以看一看...就是怕有些比较老的英语会比较难

简爱 的英文稍微有点难，又比较长，我当时看了三分之一就放弃了 (故事倒是比较适合女生看的)
纳尼亚传奇可以说是西方童书经典中的经典....虽然我没看过 O_o !!!?
(很好的故事...没有明说 但其实有一点基督教的背景)
呼啸山庄也是提到经典就会想到的一本书......但可能是本人文学造诣不高，或者当时年纪太小，怎麼都读不出那故事的所以然来......但我当时读的是中文版
动物农庄 小时候只当童话故事来读，长大一点才知道他讲的是俄国当时的革命。中英文都看过，蛮好看的。 (不会太难，不用花太多时间--建议找来看一看)
基本上这里大家回答的都是一些非常经典的书......会不会喜欢就看人了。
福尔摩斯的原著真的很好看...... (锲而不舍的家伙!)
还有一本"华氏451 度" (Fahrenheit 451)
我也看过 也是属於动物农庄那种讲社会中问题的 (比较认真)，不长。
