凡是能改编成电影的与影评畅销的都该是不错的选择，而且这类书比较容易买到或找到。不知发问者喜欢那类的小说，而且没表明是要英文原文的还是中文翻译的。
我看过且觉得值得先看的英文原文书是Dan Brown的五本畅销小说：
Digital Fortress, Deception Point, Angels and Demons, TheDa Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol。
而前两本与后三本的可以分成两个系列，我建议前一系列从Digital Fortress看起，后一系列可以从Angels and Demons先看起。
作者DanBrown的小说故事情节紧凑，且含有大量需要解谜的推敲与冒险过程，有高度可看性且让人想看下去结果到底如何，部分故事的解谜任务还需辅以图型的推演，所以插图也让读的时候容易理解作者的表达。
虽然是也有些难度高的字，但如不逐字翻查字典也应能大致了解故事发展(夸张点说，我以为不会比读红楼梦的生词还多多少)。

According to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across a spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was so sweet, he filled his leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher.
